The Morning Reports were daily reports filled out for each element of a unit. They are the only WWII records that exist that go down to the company level. They are an absolute gold mine of information about specific events of the company and its men. They include (1) location as of 2400, (2) personnel status changes, (3) Record of Events entries [not always present on every day], and (4) strength counts. They were filled out as of Midnight of the date of the report and then turned in the following morning.

Combat Morning Reports (August 1944 - May 1945)

7th Armored Division
The repository envisions a complete set of all the combat Morning Reports for all elements of 7th Armored Division. The reality of the difficulty of obtaining the Morning Reports leaves that vision unfulfilled -- but gradually making progress. In the following table, a blank cell indicates no Morning Reports yet, a "p" indicates a partial set of usually 2-4 days (contact me for details), and an "X" indicates a complete set for the month in a PDF file which can be seen by clicking on the "X".

Units OTHER THAN 7th Armored Division
The repository contains some Morning Reports of other units for specific months, as indicated below.

• October 1944
  • 24th Evacuation Hospital - Set 1
    In addition to 7th Armored Division casualties (first week), the patients apparently also include men from 82nd Airborne Division and possibly from 82nd Engineer Combat Battalion. This is by far the larger of two sets of 24th Evac Hosp MRs for Oct 1944. The other set of MRS shows some casualties starting 16 Oct 1944, which are airborne and engineers. That second set of MRs has NOT been scanned and is NOT in the PDF file at the link.
    Click here for a history of the 24th Evacuation Hospital. At the time of the Overloon battle, casualties evacuated from the 24th Evacuation Hospital (then at Bourg-Leopold, Belgium) were taken to the British 81st General Hospital at Diest, Belgium. Men who died at Diest were turned over to the Red Cross for burial and buried at a special cemetery set up at Schaffen, Belgium.
  • 53rd Field Hospital - HQ, Plat 1, Plat 2, Plat 3
    In addition to 7th Armored Division casualties (latter part of month), there are some from a non-divisional Tank Destroyer Battalion and from 30th Infantry Division.
