GENERAL INFORMATION
In general, keep in mind that
- I have a ton of e-mail and very little energy or time to deal with it, since I am in a multi-year recovery from chronic fatigue and my job has to come first in priority for my "good" time. I have e-mail dating back to 1998 that I have not anwered and which will come before any newer mail, if and when I do recover enough to deal with e-mail. So I cannot respond to e-mail that violates the guidelines on this page.
- I will not often make updates to this page. So you can find my most recent recent health update on the Hierarchy page in the What's New section.
- Even the most absolutely critical e-mails that do meet the restrictions on this page are not likely to be answered until the following weekend at the soonest. I am completely unable to deal with e-mail until the weekends.
- Even those e-mails that are acceptable (see below) may take several months or more for me to answer. So if you do send me a note, please make sure it has a return e-mail address that I can actually respond to in 3 to 6 months. If you change your address before hearing from me, send me the note again from your new address.
- Mail relevant to the 7th Armored Division does get priority and should include "7AD" in the subject, so that I can spot the notes. Please note that the 38th Infantry Regiment was in the 2nd Infantry Division and NOT in the 7th Armored Division.
- There are many pages at the Dad's War Web Site. So, if you are referring to a specific page, please specify the URL for the page you are referring to.
- Even if I do respond and we have a correspondence going, expect that it may abruptly end for a (possibly long) while if my health needs require me to suddenly do so without any notice to you.
SPECIFIC TOPICS

Research advice to help you with finding your Dad's story
I am sorry, but I just do not have the health to respond to e-mail inquiries for research advice. So I regret that
I WILL ONLY ANSWER E-MAIL REQUESTS FOR RESEARCH ADVICE ON THE 7TH ARMORED DIVISION.
NO OTHER REQUESTS CAN OR WILL BE ANSWERED DUE TO MY HEALTH LIMITATIONS
ABSOLUTELY NO EXCEPTIONS
YOUR NEED FOR HELP DOES NOT CHANGE THE SEVERE LIMITATIONS OF MY HEALTH.
YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE TO DEAL WITH YOUR RESEARCH PROBLEM YOURSELF, USING THE RESOURCES I HAVE GIVEN ON THE DAD'S WAR WEB PAGE.
Go to the Dad's War pages' section titled First Steps to Finding Your Dad's Story to begin your research.
I certainly hope that someday I can resume at least postal mail answering of your inquiries, but even those are out of the question now. So do not send postal mail inquiries either. I cannot be responsible for any material nor any money that you send to me. It will be lost. So do not sent it.

7th Armored Division
Since my Dad was in the 7th Armored Division, I will answer research inquiries for people researching men who were in or attached to the 7th Armored Division. Even these requests may be answered sporadically, depending on my health and other priorities. But I will try to give priority to these requests. So please identify your request as a 7th Armored Division request in the subject of your note, for example by making the subject "7AD - xxxx" where xxxx is the rest of the subject. This will help it stand out from the mountain of e-mail that I receive. If you know the unit within the 7th Armored Division, it would also be good to put that in the subject: e.g. "7AD - 33rd Engr - xxxx".

Requests to add links to the Dad's War main page
My policy on letting other people add links to this site from their own site is that if it is on the web, then go ahead and link to it -- that's the nature of the web. There is no need for you to send me an e-mail to ask for my permission to link to any of my pages. In fact, due to my health, I will not be able to respond to you if you do send me such a request.
My policy on adding links from the Dad's War home page to other pages is pretty open, with a few exceptions:
- First, I am not likely to add a link to sites that are heavily framed, particularly if the framing is for ads.
- Second, I have to keep the scope of this page very tightly focused on the purpose. So I will not add links that are not sufficiently within the scope of this page.
- Third, I do not want to add links to web pages that disappear: so if you do not have a stable web provider or do not intend to keep your page up indefinitely at a consistent URL, please do not request a link.
- Fourth, since October 1998, I have been completely unable to deal with link requests. I do store them, so that if and when I regain my health I can begin adding links. But the backlog is huge and will take the better part of a year to catch up with, even when I do begin -- and the beginning is surely at least 6 months in the future.
- For the same health reasons, I will not even be able to acknowledge receiving your link request any time in the foreseeable future.
If you want me to add a link about a specific person's story, please put the words "LINK REQUEST" in your title and include the following information in your note:
- Your Name
- Person's Name (if it not you)
- Person's Unit (or Ship if Navy or Merchant Marine), as completely as possible (if not a U. S. unit, also indicate country)
- Combat Theater and Location
- Title, if any, of your relevant web page
- Complete URL of the relevant page: Please do NOT send this embedded in HTML; just send the URL as text.
This information will expedite adding of links. I do look at every link before adding it, to assure it is approriate for the scope of the Dad's War page. Thus making your note as complete as possible does expedite the process.
Please note that I already have a large backlog of link requests that are waiting for my health to sufficiently improve. So those requests that adhere to the above specifics are going to get in sooner than those that do not.

Notes and link requests on the Battle of the Bulge pages
If your note is about a specific person's participation in the Bulge, please see the topic above, reagarding research advice to help you with finding a person's story. I cannot answer such queries by e-mail, unless they are for memebers of units of or attached to the 7th Armored Division.
For all other Bulge-related link requests and queries, please put the words "BULGE LINK REQUEST" in the subject of your note, along with the unit involved: for example, "BULGE - 289th Engr Combat Bn".
Please scroll up to the general link request section, immediately above, since those same restrictions apply for Bulge Link Requests.

My E-mail Address
Only when you have read ALL of the General Information section above
and all of the above text relevant to your type of message
you may contact me at WWJohnston@aol.com
ALL E-MAILS THAT DO NOT ADHERE TO THE ABOVE GUIDELINES WILL NOT BE ANSWERED.
NO EXCEPTIONS!!
I wish that did not have to be so, but it does.
