UNITS OF COMPANY "C" OF THE 23rd ARMORED INFANTRY BATTALION:
C/23 consisted of the following platoons and sections. (The roles and numbers in parens are the standard table of organization counts of men. They were usually lower and sometimes higher.)

COMPANY-LEVEL OFFICERS OF COMPANY "C" OF THE 23rd ARMORED INFANTRY BATTALION:
The only company-level officers were the Commanding Officer and the Maintenance Officer. The other 4 officers in the company were the 4 platoon leaders.
NOTE: Scroll down to the bottom for a complete list of officers, since I do not know the roles of any but the CO's.
Commanding officers of C/23 were:
- Captain William P. Cole, III (States - ?? Sep 44 - uncertain: I have been told that he died of wounds after being captured at the Dornot bridgehead over the Moselle River)
- 1st Lt. William Dean Tommey (10? Sep 44 - 30 Oct 44, LWA to 41st Evacuation Hospital)
- 1st Lt. James A. Stonecipher (30 Oct 44 - 18 Nov 44) -- not sure he was the CO during this period but probably was
- Captain Clarence A. McLane (18 Nov 44 - 27 Dec 44, LWA to 77th Evacuation Hospital)
- Capt. Joseph H. Grant, Jr. (27 Dec 44 - 28 Dec 44, transferred to A/23) -- He was assigned to C/23 and joined from 23 AIB Battalion Headquarters 11 Dec 44, so that there were two Captains until Capt. McLane was wounded.
- 1st Lt. James A. Stonecipher (28 Dec 44 - 7 Jan 45, transferred to 23 AIB Battalion Headquarters)
- Captain Kenneth H. Paulhamus (7 Jan 45 - 13 Jan 45, return of Dean Tommey) -- remained with C/23 after return of Dean Tommey until 12 Mar 45 when he was sent to Paris on temporary duty, returning 30 Mar 45 and was transferred to 23 AIB Battalion Headquarters 31 Mar 45

Clyde Hilker of C/23 gave me this list at the 2004 Reunion. I do not yet know which officers go with which roles in the Company. (SWA = seriously [i.e. believed to be life-threatening] wounded in action, LWA = lightly [i.e. not believed to be life-threatening] wounded in action)
