2005-04-12 E-mail from Niek Hendrix (nehkien@xs4all.nl) Hi Wes Not to far from the mansion with the silver balls there was this house called The Wetering. The map I have send you has also a road on it called the wetering. The house was located between bridge 14 and sluice bridge 13 across the canal so on the other side of the canal than the mansion with the silver balls . I hope I am making sence. The house was destroyed by fire on the 22nd of september 1944 together with 2 other houses in the neighbourhood. The photos that are attached were taken the 17th and the 24th of september 1944. Probably near this house Sanders of the 87th recon/A was wounded. He was a guest at this house. I am in contact with his son and he will send me info soon. to be continued................................ Best, Niek Ps if you have quistion please send me a note 2005-04-13 E-mail from Niek Hendrix (nehkien@xs4all.nl) A drunk german patrol crossed the bois le duc between nederweert and someren the 22nd of September 1944 They burned three houses down. One of the houses was this beatiful house "The Wetering" The white house in background of the photo "men against feeding beets" could not have been this house. Because" The Wetering" was burned the 22nd of September. The white house in the background has a roof. That means there are two houses that could be in the background. Either the "Zuidhoeve" and the Northhoeve" (North farm and Southfarm) The "Zuidhoeve"(mansion with the silver balls) has a different shape then the house in the background of the photo So that means it could be the "Noordhoeve" That is not to far from the Stokershorst. The date is 3 november, so it could be the 87th recon between Ospel and Meyel Maybe recon 814th TD battalion? Best, Niek
